Dear Parents

Recently I attended a Middle School assembly hosted by Sinead Smithies (Captain) and Eva Quattrini (Vice Captain). These two girls, together with the other Middle School leaders, had put together an excellent presentation to promote International Women’s Day. I was asked to address the audience and a number of staff and students commented on what I said. I have included my speech below.

Mission 

The 2015 Mercy focus value of Compassion is being lived out in all areas of College life. At the beginning of the year all staff took part in a workshop to identify ways the value of Compassion could be incorporated into curriculum areas. The list of suggestions was lengthy and many have been put into action already.

Interim Reports and Parent Teacher Daughter Interviews

All parents will receive an email early next week with details regarding the online Interim Reports. Included in the email are instructions and links to make appointments for the Parent Teacher Daughter Interviews to be held on Monday 20 April which all families are encouraged to attend.

Junior School

JIGSSA Swimming Carnival On Thursday 19 March Santa Maria College was host to three visiting schools for the annual JIGSSA Swimming Carnival. The students in Year 6 visited St Hilda’s School to compete. These are participatory Carnivals and all the girls are encouraged to give their best for their Colleges.

Middle School

Year 9 Social with Aquinas

Year 9 students will be having a social with the Year 9 boys from Aquinas next term. Before the end of term parents will be sent a letter outlining the details of the event, including the dress code, which will be age and event appropriate.

Senior School, Issue 4, 2015

The last few weeks in the Senior School has been spent working with our Senior girls in Academic Review. This is an opportunity to work with girls on the direction of their studies, how they are managing their time and what they can do to better balance their approach to their studies.

Boarding, Issue 4, 2015

The girls are anticipating the term break and their return home with great eagerness. This term has been busy and productive, and all of the girls, especially our new boarders, can be proud of their achievements. Each Sunday, Father Hugh celebrates Mass with the girls.
