The Santa Maria College Junior School is comprised of students in Years 5 and 6 who come from schools within the Perth metropolitan district. The Junior School has access to all College facilities and also features its own playground, assembly area, fitness track and outdoor spaces for fun and relaxation.
Staff in the Junior School aim to foster a climate in which each student develops a deep feeling of self-worth, a sense of responsibility and a caring attitude to herself, others and the environment.
The curriculum provides learning experiences which develop skills, concepts and values to enable students to thrive in a rapidly changing society, and which encourage them to become responsible and capable community members. Our small class sizes are also an important part of ensuring girls are given the very best opportunities to happily achieve their potential.
Extensive research and data informs our choices of Literacy and Numeracy Programs that will most benefit our girls in their journey through school and beyond. Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, History and Health are taught by the Homeroom teachers while Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Drama, Library Skills, Physical Education and Languages are taught by specialist teachers.
Technology supports the Learning Program, and all students use laptop computers. There are interactive televisions in all classrooms and computing is incorporated into activities across the curriculum. The many classroom opportunities and co-curricular programs offered at Santa Maria make it a special place to learn.
