Staff Development

Santa Maria College supports teaching staff to be dynamic, innovative  and collaborative professionals in a number of ways.  The College is committed to developing the full potential of its staff and offers a variety of professional learning opportunities.

Staff new to the College are partnered with a ‘professional friend’ to assist them in their transition to their new workplace and participate in a year-long induction program.

Teachers in their early years of teaching participate in a Graduate Teachers’ Program, which supports their skill development and assists with Teacher Registration requirements.

Middle and senior leaders are provided with relevant development and training to enhance their leadership of others.

Teaching staff are encouraged to reflect on their performance using evidence based data such as student surveys and feedback gained from peer observation partnerships.

College based professional learning addresses contemporary educational issues and topics such as:

  • AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Differentiation for all students
  • Girls’ Education
  • Middle School strategies
  • Effective feedback and assessment
  • Positive psychology strategies and Mercy Wellbeing

As teachers, we want the best from our students, but we aspire to give our best in each lesson, at every sporting carnival, every service event and so much more. I love working at this College because every day it inspires me to be the best teacher I can possibly be.
